New York City
42nd Street in New York City has always been home to some of the most iconic theaters in the world. Albert's piece 42nd Street spans from the Selwyn Theater to the Apollo Theater and looks as it might've in the mid-1990s.
Al's piece features sayings and re-creations of Jenny Holzer's groundbreaking street art. As a fellow RISD grad, Al has always been inspired by Jenny and has looked up to her as a rebel as well as an artistic legend.
Al was able to recreate 42nd street from his own photos that he took with his film camera over 20 years ago. Al took pictures because he knew that the architecture and vibe of 42nd street in the 90s would become important in the following decades, and now we have 42nd Street to commemorate one of the most culturally-dense areas of the US.
